VAA01 - Luminary with advertising art for the Buffalo
Brewing Company, etched on glass, based on a
poster from Circa 1901. One of the most sought-after
brewery advertising pieces, a semi-clad American
Indian maiden, her right breast exposed, riding
bareback on a buffalo through a horseshoe in the sky.
They appear to be soaring through the clouds. Images
of hops/barley form a border to the right and left of her.
The words "Buffalo Brewing Company." wrap around
the top and lettering at the bottom says "Sacramento,
Cal. U.S.A.” and “Stecher Lith. Co., Rochester, N.Y.”.
The original, circa 1901, is from a calendar measuring
17" x 24" in the Burt Collection. An appraiser on PBS'
Antiques Roadshow stated no greater western image
has ever been conceived. Only 11 originals are known to exist.
Being overall 5 inches wide and 8 3/4 inches high, this luminary has a 4 x 6 inch piece of 1/4 inch glass, laser engraved with the image. The glass is mounted on a stone base being held in place by a custom designed bracket, produced by 3D printing. Also attached to the base is an engraved black and silver metal plate with information about the image.
The glass and its image are illuminated from behind by a six lamp LED light (included) which is powered by 3 AAA batteries (not included). This luminary makes a great night light or a light source to brighten a darker corner of your bookshelf.
